ABOUT ME

Courtney Burleigh, MSW, LCSW

Growing up in Southern California, I was immersed in a culture that fixated on materialism, idealized self-image, and masked depression and shame through harmful behaviors. I witnessed many people close to me use different masks to conceal underlying pain. It is incredibly difficult to connect to an authentic self (flaws and all) in a culture that promotes perfectionism.

Prior to pursuing my career as a therapist, I was drawn to communities that acknowledged our own flawed existence—and to people that were authentic about challenges, doubts, and their own interactions with shame. As a therapist, I desire to empower clients with the tools necessary to heal from the underlying fear and shame that burden daily life. I firmly believe that by confronting and resolving these issues through various therapeutic approaches, we can begin to live the lives we were meant to experience. Finding authentic purpose is difficult—yet incredibly worth it.

I completed my undergraduate schooling at California Baptist University, and pursued my Master of Social Work (MSW) at California State University, Fullerton.

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in the state of Colorado.

I find it best to provide an individualized approach to therapy. This may include the use of several different treatment approaches such as EMDR, Internal Family Systems (IFS), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)

and body-centered approaches.

When appropriate and requested by a client of faith, I am passionate about interweaving biblical truths into the healing process.

Prior to private practice, I provided individual, family, and group therapy in residential and day-program settings that specialized in at-risk youth, eating disorders, body image, addictive behaviors, depression, and anxiety.

I specialize in the area of eating disorder recovery, trauma recovery and faith-based psychotherapy.

My husband and I moved to Colorado in 2015, and enjoy time outside with our daughters and lovable Australian Shepherd. I love community, good brunch, and laughter with friends.
